Much has changed in Utah — and across the nation — since fall 2007, when student-journalists first covered the lesbian/gay/bisexual/transgender/queer community.

So, reporting students focused on this beat during fall semester 2012. They covered Pride Week at the University of Utah in October and tweeted during events (#UofUPride). They also reported on other issues in the community, including: bullying; the Pinkdot campaign; Affirmation, a group for current and former Mormons who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, or transgender; homelessness; the U’s transgender housing policy; and The Bad Kids, a Salt Lake City group that challenges stereotypical images of drag queens.

Stories published during fall semester 2007 included articles about Pride Week at the University of Utah; pieces about Equality Utah and GLAAD, the Gay and Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation; profiles of QSaltLake, the local LGBTQ newspaper; and an article about the Goodtime Bowling League, which donates money annually to a variety of Salt Lake City charities.
